Handwoven Basket Workshop - Tuesdays, June 23 & 30, 10 am - 1 pm
Over two sessions, you’ll learn the fundamentals of traditional basket weaving while creating your own beautiful handwoven basket from start to finish. Students will learn basket weaving terminology and techniques, how to prepare and work with materials, lay out a base with an integrated handle, weave a simple pattern, shape and turn the sides of the basket, and create a finished rim.
You’ll also gain experience using traditional basket weaving tools, including a shave pony and shave knife to shape the rim, as well as learning how to lash and finish your basket for a polished final piece. This workshop is a wonderful introduction to the craft and a fun opportunity to slow down, work with your hands, and create something both beautiful and functional.
Students will leave with a completed handmade basket and the skills to continue exploring basket weaving on their own.
